FEATURED MOVIE: M3GAN
Curious if this movie is appropriate for your kid?
Theatrical Cut: You can expect mild sequences of violence, a scene with very minor gore, child death, dog death (not shown), one use of “fuck” and a couple uses of “shit”.
Unrated Cut: You can expect more blood in the sequences of violence, just enough to earn this an R rating had it gone to the theaters in this form. The dog death is still not shown. There’s maybe ten or so more uses of “fuck” scattered throughout. I consider this version to be equivalent to a soft R rating—there’s nothing overly gruesome here, though the kid’s death is still a bit shocking.
FEATURED MOVIE: KNOCK AT THE CABIN
Curious if this movie is appropriate for your kid? Though rated R, this is a soft R that received its rating primarily because of some foul language. The violence itself is very mild and mostly done off-screen with shadows and gruesome sound effects. The use of “fuck” is sprinkled throughout but is not constant. There is also one flashback scene with assault against the fathers, which may be triggering to some that have been attacked for being queer.

THE LAST OF US (HBO ADAPTATION)
Curious if this show is appropriate for your kid? You can expect child death, coarse language, post-apocalyptic settings, militarized control of its people by the government, chaos and mass death, violence, gore, monster violence, sacrifice, murder, and suicide. This list may seem long but much of the violence in this show is very toned down. It doesn’t really get gory until the monsters are involved, which are used sparingly. Mostly, you’ll be subject to coarse language and the act of hunting for other humans.
